THE ABC FOR EFFECTIVE MARKETING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Marketing your product or service is more than just posting texts and graphics on your social media platforms. For result-driven marketing, you need a strategy.

STRATEGY VS PLAN VS TACTICS

Most times, people confuse plan and tactics for strategy, they may think they have a working strategy but all they have is tactics and not a strategy, or most likely, none. All they know is they are doing what they do and it's working for them. It is important to have a strategy because having a strategy can result in having a system and having a system is what brings about the authenticity and uniqueness of any successful business. For clarity;

- Strategy answers the 'Why' question. Why do you do what you do?  Why that business or service? why do you care about it? etc.

- Plan answers the 'What' question. What is it that you are going to do? It could be to get more reach, promote the business/service, or drive results that matter to you, etc.

- Tactics answers the 'How' question. How are you going to do what you do?

7 STEPS FOR AN EFFECTIVE TARGETED MARKETING

1. First, you have to present a clear definition of your competitive advantage, constructing your unique selling proposition. this is about your offers, what makes you unique from the others, talk about your features, advantages, and benefits you offer.

2. Define your target audience (knowing your customer). This brings you to the understanding of who you are communicating with (age/gender, location, personality, values, interests, lifestyle, etc.), if it makes sense to them, and how you are going to communicate with them.

3. Choose your medium of marketing. This is crucial as you need to pick the best marketing medium to explain, teach, and promote how your services or product stand out above other competitors. The medium of marketing may be, Traditional medium (Direct mail, broadcast, print advertising, P.O.S, outdoors, etc.), field marketing/face to face (street team, sampling, mobile vehicles, event, and sponsorship activation, etc.), and online (website, social media, email, search, web/banner ad, etc.).

4. Budget your marketing spending. The major marketing categories include website, direct mail, email marketing, social media, print advertising, online advertising, public relations, event marketing, TV, and Radio.

5. Prepare your detailed marketing plan, and list key marketing activities (objectives), stipulating who are on your team is responsible for each activity.

6. Set KPIs (key performance indicators) to measure overall performance over time.

7. Review your marketing strategy, plan, and tactics from time to time, let's say every three months.
